What is it about?

ACER together with the Florence School of Regulators (FSR) and the International Union of Tenants (IUT) will co-host a Policy Conference during EU Sustainable Energy Week on empowering and protecting energy consumers in crisis and beyond.

With spiralling energy prices, many customers across Europe experienced energy hardship and vulnerability. Member States introduced a range of different measures (e.g. energy efficiency support for renovations; affordability support such as vouchers, coupons, subsidies, deferral payments of energy bills, price caps and tax cuts) to support consumers and businesses during the energy crisis. Some measures were targeted, others were not. EU policy makers are now also considering longer-term electricity market design reforms to support EU energy goals.

The Policy Conference will discuss the short- and long-term measures designed/proposed to include vulnerable consumers in the common effort to decarbonise the EU energy system.
