ACER to decide on electricity intraday capacity calculation in the Core region
The national regulatory authorities of the Core capacity calculation region (Core NRAs) referred a proposal to amend the Core intraday capacity calculation methodology to ACER. The Core NRAs had initially requested a three-month extension to decide on the proposal, submitted by the region’s transmission system operators (Core TSOs).
The matter is now with ACER, which intends to ensure a timely decision.
What is the Core intraday capacity calculation methodology?
The methodology determines how much cross-zonal transmission capacity is available for intraday electricity trading in the Core region - the EU’s largest capacity calculation region, covering 13 Member States.
First approved in 2019, the methodology has been amended five times to reflect developments in intraday capacity calculation, including the transition to flow-based calculation and the implementation of different intraday calculation stages.
Core TSOs propose a sixth amendment to further align intraday processes with other market timeframes in the region (namely, day-ahead and long-term) and to remove long-term allocations from the day-ahead capacity calculation. The proposed changes aim to support EU electricity market integration through a more efficient and secure allocation of cross-zonal capacity.
